Coffee: A Preparation

I’ve been drinking coffee for a long time.

After years of practice & experimentation, I’ve settled on a method of brewing that produces a consistently good cup of coffee. The whole procedure takes less than 10 minutes.

Here’s how it all comes together.

the beans

the beans

4 tablespoons (22–25g)

Tonx Coffee

Tonx sends out a different hand-selected shipment every two weeks. I go through this pretty quickly, so my back-up beans are from Handsome Coffee Roasters.

the grind

Burr Grinder

Capresso Infinity

I prefer a reasonably fine grind, best described as resembling coarse sand.

the water

the water

12 ounces (350mL)
198° to 204° F

Bona Vita Electric Kettle

After the water comes to a boil, let it cool down to the desired range (above) before pouring.

the pour

Clever Coffee Dripper

Pour the water over the grounds slowly in a circular motion. Then put the lid on top to better retain heat.

the brew

the brew

1.5 minutes > stir
2.5 minutes > stir

The total brew time is four minutes.

the serve

the serve

10 ounces (300mL)

Hario V60 Range Server

Place the Clever Coffee over the Hario and wait patiently. With the grind above, the coffee will drain in less than 1.5 minutes.

Pour the coffee into your favorite cup.
